ISRA Thursday Bulletin – September 30, 2021

September 30, 2021

The numbers of FOID cards and Illinois Concealed Carry Licenses (ICCL) keep rising In Illinois.  The same is true in other states.  These facts come as no surprise.  The United States is fast becoming a mess with an estimated 1,234,183 people who have crossed our borders illegally since Biden took office.  By the time you read this, that figure will be out of date.  When asked how many of these people had criminal records, one Biden Administration official said he did not know.  My guess is they do know but it is better to look incompetent than face the rath of the American people if the truth were known.  Of course, these people are being transported to your neighborhood, or a neighborhood near you, free of charge.  Well, it is free to them, you and I are paying for it.  Trust me, this may be the cheapest part of this fiasco.  I imagine we will be on the hook for a century.  Haiti and Mexico are nearly 2000 miles apart and separated by open sea.  So how did some 15,000 Haitians get to Mexico?  Someone is helping them.  Now, I wonder who that could be?

The number of carjackings is on the rise in Chicago.  As of Friday, September 27th, the number of carjackings in Chicago was 1165.  A couple of them got shot by an ICCL holder when they tried to carjack his car.  Those two were out on probation, now isn’t that a shocker.  In fact, the Chicago cops stopped a guy in a stolen car and found he was out on probation from a previous carjacking.  I don’t know about you but I am beginning to see a pattern here.  A member who is a truck driver had to pick up a load on the South side of Chicago a few days ago.  On the way to the pickup point, people were trying to break in his empty trailer while he was driving on a main street.  Once he got the load, another driver told him how to get out of the city using less traveled streets so he wouldn’t be robbed before he got to the interstate.  What a mess.

On the Washington D.C. front: The Department of Justice is asking for more time to contemplate the 200,000 comments they received regarding rules for AR15 pistol braces.  David Chipman, whose name was withdrawn from consideration for ATF Director, is back.  He is now asking for money to fight the “Gun Lobby”.  He will probably get it from Michael Bloomberg.  We will have to watch and see.

Back in Illinois, a bill has been introduced, HB4156, that would force firearm dealers, importers or manufacturers of firearm and ammunition strictly liable if a firearm and ammunition were used unlawfully.  The synopsis is below.  This bill is unlikely to go anywhere but once again, it shows us where they would like to go.

HB4156 Synopsis as Introduced: Creates the Firearms Dealer and Importer Liability Act.  Provides that the Act may be referred to as the Protecting Heartbeats Act.  Provides that any manufacturer, importer, or dealer of a firearm shall be held strictly liable for any bodily injury or death if the bodily injury or death proximately results from the unlawful discharge of the firearm in the State.  Allows any person, other than an officer or employee of a State or local governmental entity, to bring a civil action against any person or entity who violates the Act.  Requires the court to award a prevailing claimant: (1) injunctive relief; (2) statutory damages in an amount of not less than $10,000 for each individual injured or killed by a firearm that the defendant manufactured, imported, or dealt; and (3) costs and attorney’s fees.  Provides for various limitations.

I have been elected to the board of directors of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms.  I am honored.  As always, I will do my best for you.  Below is the press release:

Chatsworth, IL – Illinois State Rifle Association Executive Director has been tapped to serve on the Board of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms.

The Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is the lobbying arm of the Second Amendment Foundation, (SAF) which is dedicated to promoting a better understanding about our nation’s Constitutional heritage to privately own and possess firearms.  The organization is involved in numerous educational and legal action programs designed to better inform the public about the gun control debate.

“No one is more deserving of being on the Board of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms,” said Alan M. Gottlieb, Founder of the Second Amendment Foundation.  “His experience in fighting for the Second Amendment is second to none.  We are pleased to have Richard Pearson on the Board.”

Pearson said he is honored to be a part of the work the Citizens Committee does to protect the rights of honest gun owners.

“Alan and I have worked on a number of projects together over the years, and I am looking forward to continuing that work as a member of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms board,” Pearson said.  “Our rights and liberties are constantly being threatened and those of us who support the Second Amendment need to stand together to preserve the rights guaranteed to us in our Constitution.”

Tidbits:

September 30, 1927 – Babe Ruth hits his 60th home run.   Ruth originally played for the Boston Red Sox but was traded to the New York Yankees just before the 1920 season.  Red Sox owner, Harry Frazee, wanted to finance the musical No No Nanette.  Boston fans were furious.  In 10 of the next 12 seasons, Ruth hit more home runs than the entire Boston Red Sox team.  The Boston Red Sox did not win a World Series for the next 85 years.  Ruth had a couple of nicknames, one was “The Sultan of Swat” and the other more official nickname was the “Bambino“.  The 85-year drought was called the “Curse of the Bambino” by Red Sox fans.

September 30, 1954 – The world’s first atomic submarine, the USS Nautilus, is launched.  The joke at the time was those sailors aboard the Nautilus would not see daylight until their enlistments were up.

October 12, 1942 – Germany tests the V2 rocket.  The V2 carried a 2000-pound warhead and traveled at an unheard of 2000 miles per hour.  It was also launched from mobile launch pads.  It was unstoppable once it was launched with the technology of the time.

October 3, 1863 – Abraham Lincoln proclaims the fourth Thursday in November a day of thanksgiving.  In 1941, Franklin Roosevelt signed a bill officially making Thanksgiving the fourth Thursday in November.

October 5 1892 – The Dalton Gang has a rough day.  The Dalton Gang tries to rob two banks at once in their home town of Coffeyville, Kansas.  They decided to rob the First National Bank and the Condon Bank.  It was not their finest hour.  They were immediately recognized and townspeople grabbed their guns and went after them.  A local barber and the livery stable owner killed three of them when they went out the back door of one bank and the same thing happened at the other bank.  The only survivor of the gang was Emmett Dalton.  Four towns’ people were also killed.  Emmett Dalton served 14 years in prison.  After he got out, we worked as a Hollywood screen writer.  He died in 1937.
