ISRA Thursday Bulletin – December 2, 2021

December 2, 2021

On Black Friday week the National Shooting Sports Foundation, NSSF, reported that there more than 683,000 background checks performed.  This period includes November 20, 2021 thru November 25, 2021.  This year will end up being the second highest number of background checks on record.

There are a couple of things that are giving the left wingers and their media partners heartburn.  The first of these is the Kyle Rittenhouse verdicts.  They are still stumbling all over trying to twist the story to be anything but what it is, which is the fact that individuals have a right to defend themselves and it was upheld in court.  The second fact that is giving them heartburn is the Waukesha incident where the suspect ran down and killed several people and injured many others.  The left-wing media either doesn’t talk about it or they blame the SUV.  They do not want to hold the driver, Darrell Brooks Jr, responsible.  Brooks was let out on $1,000 bail a couple of days before he murdered six people with his SUV that he was driving.  Brook’s previous convictions include, sex offenses, resisting arrest, strangulation, and running down a woman with a vehicle, and the list goes on and on.  This is what you get with the no bail or low bail laws.  Innocent people get killed by hardened criminals who know how to work the system.  The lame stream media is fishtailing and, in my opinion, are a large part of the problem.  Grrr.

Anti-gun leftist students at Arizona State University are trying to stop Kyle Rittenhouse’s admission to the university.  They, of course, think they are smarter than the jury, they are not.  This is just another example of the bigotry on the left.  As of yet, Rittenhouse has not filed an anti-defamation suit but I wish he would.

The Ninth Circuit Court in San Francisco, California, has upheld California magazine bans.  The decision in Duncan v Bonta stated that the 10 round limit only minimally interferes with a person’s right to self-defense.  Any interference with a person’s right to self-defense is too much.  All the Ninth Circuit Court had to do was look out the window and see 60 to 100 rioters (some armed) destroying shopping areas, to know that 10 rounds are not enough in self-defense in many situations.  This will be appealed to the United States Supreme Court.

Tidbits:

December 2, 1777 – British General Howe’s headquarters in Philadelphia was too small for staff meetings so he commandeered the Darragh home across the street.  Lydia Darragh was a house wife, a nurse and a patriot.  When General Howe had his meetings, she could hear through the walls and take notes.  On December 2, 1777, she heard General Howe’s plan to attack George Washington’s troops on December 4, 1777.  She wrote his plans on note paper and sewed her notes in her coat.  She used her role as a homemaker to receive a pass from Howe to visit her children and obtain flour.  She took her flour sacks to be filled and journeyed towards the Rising Sun Tavern, a patriot message center.  She informed an American officer about Howe’s plan to attack and the message was forwarded to Colonel Elias.  When Howe’s army reached Washington’s position, he was not there.

December 3, 1818 – Illinois became the twenty-first state of the Union.  Illinois started out in debt and has been in debt ever since.

December 4, 1783 – George Washington bids farewell to his troops in a gathering at the Fraunces Tavern in New York City.  From there, he left for Annapolis, Maryland, where he officially resigned December 23, 1787.

December 9, 1945 – At 2:10 pm, a flight of Navy Avenger Torpedo bombers takes off on a routine training mission.  The 303-mile training mission flew over the Bermuda Triangle.  They were never heard from again.  At 7:27 pm, a search aircraft took off to find the training flight and it also disappeared.  Later, a tanker was reported sailing through the same area and it exploded and disappeared; the legend of the Bermuda Triangle was born.

December 6, 1868 – Frank, William, and Simeon Reno pulled off the first train robbery in Indiana.  In the process, they fatally shot one of the guards.  The first robbery, which occurred in 1866, caused the railroad company to hire Pinkerton detectives, who captured the Reno brothers two years later, after one of their train robberies.  The citizens were so infuriated, they broke into the jail call and lynched the three brothers.  Justice was served.

December 7, 1941 – Pearl Harbor is attacked, plunging the United States into WW II!  Most of you know the story of the attack but the fact is that the story began in 1921, one hundred years ago.  Woodrow Wilson and most of the leaders who were in charge in WW I were worried about another war.  They were naïve but well intended.  As the saying goes, “The road through hell is paved with good intentions.”  Truer words were never spoken.

In 1921, negotiations were started to limit the size of the Navies.  This was done by limiting the size of the battle ships, aircraft carriers, cruisers, etc.  There was a tonnage limit that limited the Navies.  The total weight of a carrier ship for the United States and Great Britain was 525,000 tons; for Japan, it was 315,000 tons.  There was a separate category for aircraft carriers because no one understood the prominence in the future.  Of course, all of this depended on every country keeping their word, which of course they did not.  The Japanese started by using the loophole in the treaty.  Because the Japanese were shorter in stature, they could build ship decks closer together, therefore, saving weight to be used for other things.

In The Washington Naval Treaty of 1922, the United States voluntarily limited the number of Naval bases in the Pacific, the Philippines and Hawaii, another naïve move.  In 1930, Japan pulled out of the Washington treaty and did what they wanted.  The United States stuck to their word.  This is just another example of how the United States gets itself stuck behind the eight ball all the time.  Modern day agreements are no better for us than the Washington Naval Treaty of 1922.  Here is a very short list: the Paris Accord, the Antarctic Non-Military Zone, the Space Demilitarized Zone and of course, our agreements with Iran, to name a few.
