Cannabis and Your Second Amendment Rights

Cannabis and Your Second Amendment Rights

by Ed Sullivan, ISRA Lobbyist, former Illinois State Legislator

In the New Year there will be a bevy of new laws facing Illinois Citizens. One new law that Gun Owners should pay close attention to is PA 101-0027, the Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act. This new law allows Illinois citizens over twenty-one the ability to purchase and consume cannabis recreationally. Illinois citizens have had the ability to purchase and consume cannabis for medical reasons for five years. There is a difference between the purchase and use of Medical Cannabis and Recreational Cannabis as it relates to your lawful rights to own and possess a firearm in Illinois.

Palmer v D.C.

Palmer v D.C.

Commentary by Victor D. Quilici, ISRA General Counsel

Alan Gura, the plaintiffs’ attorney in the Heller and McDonald cases
has done it again, scoring a victory in a federal district court case in the
District of Columbia that many Second Amendment scholars see as
a milestone for the Second Amendment right to carry handguns outside of the
home for self-defense.

Otis McDonald

It is with great regret that I inform you of the passing of Otis McDonald. Otis was 79. I have always considered Otis as one of those people who lived everyday bravely and was not a hero because of one event but was a hero every day of his life.
