ISRA Thursday Bulletin - May 9, 2019

by Richard Pearson

There are 14 days left in the Senate and 16 days left in the House of Representatives in this Legislative Session but there is still plenty of time for mayhem.  This Legislative Session has revealed the true intent of the anti-gun crowd to even the blindest of gun owners.  We have seen the introduction of a bill with universal ammunition taxes, the introduction of a ban that includes every type of semi-auto firearm including .22s, and a FOID card bill that would literally make it impossible for most people to have a FOID card.  In the past there were some gun owners who did not come to the defense of others gun owners because it did not affect them.  It has always been clear to many of us that everything is on the table and the anti-gun crowd wants it all.  Now it should be clear to all gun owners.  This is not an Illinois problem alone.  Cory Booker, Senator from New Jersey who is running for President, has even more outlandish proposals.

Cuckoo Cory Booker’s proposals come right out of the anti-gunner’s playbook that we see here in Illinois.  They include but are not limited to: a National FOID card that is only good for five years, requiring gun owners to apply for those cards at designated locations; fingerprinting on all gun owners who are completing a firearm safety course; microstamping of ammunition; banning high capacity magazines; one gun a month; lost and stolen firearm reporting; higher funding for the ATF to investigate firearm dealers; investigating the NRA’s tax status and on and on it goes.  Cory Booker may be just another cookie cutter anti-gun crackpot but, nevertheless, he and others like him are dangerous.  Don’t ever underestimate them.

We must fight tooth and nail to hold on to what we have.  When the 2020 elections arrive, every gun owner must participate.  We have to hold the United States Senate, take back the United States House of Representatives and support President Trump.  As Benjamin Franklin said, “We must, indeed, all hang together or, most assuredly, we shall all hang separately.”

Imagine being a FOID card holder with no convictions on your record but you are denied a Concealed Carry permit because of arrests that occurred two decades ago.

Unfortunately, this is exactly what happened to Chicago resident Michael White.

White has twice been denied a concealed carry permit for being “a danger to himself and others.”  White is in legal possession of a FOID card and the ISRA contends he has fulfilled all of the requirements to obtain a concealed carry permit.

According to the suit, Michael White, “applied for, and has been denied, an Illinois concealed carry license after his application was routed to the Illinois Concealed Carry Licensing Review Board.

The ISRA has filed a lawsuit against the Illinois State Police for improperly denying a concealed carry permit. The Concealed Carry Licensing Review Board is only focusing on arrests – not convictions nor has the Board provided any specifics as to why White is a danger to himself and others.  The truth is White is married and he has two kids.  All he wants is to be able to protect himself and the people he loves, and hopefully he will soon.

The case has been filed in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, Eastern Division.

The Illinois State Rifle Association, the Second Amendment Foundation, Illinois Carry and et al have petitioned for a rehearing in the Culp v Madigan case.  This time the Seventh Circuit has accepted an amicus brief from the Attorney Generals from 16 states.  We will keep you informed.

The Illinois State Rifle Association has won 16 court challenges in a row.  The Illinois State Rifle Association Legal Assistance Committee is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization.  You can make a tax-deductible donation to the ISRA-LAC online or by mailing your contribution to ISRA-LAC, PO Box 494, Chatsworth, IL, 60921-0494.

Thanks to all who attended the Belleville Gun & Knife Show last weekend.  Bill Potts and I enjoyed speaking with over 100 attendees.  We appreciate your support!

We are pleased to welcome back Massad Ayoob’s MAG-40 Class to our ISRA Range.  This intense four-day, 40-hour immersion course in the “rules of engagement” for armed law-abiding private citizens will be held from June 6th through the 9th.  There are openings available at this time.
