Most of us meander through life changing gradually as we meet people and entertain new ideas.  Every once in a while, we meet a person or an idea in life that causes us to take a sharp 90 degree turn in our life.  We may not even realize it right away until we view it through a perspective of our own history sometime later.  This can be a teacher, someone we work with, an acquaintance or just anyone.

ISRA Thursday Bulletin - October 3, 2019

Somehow 2019 seems to be flying by.  Archery deer season has already started.  Most places still have plenty of crops in the field and things may be tough for bow hunters but that may help the gun hunters.  Harvesting has begun but the places are spotty.  Much of the corn crop was planted late so it is common to see a brown field next to a green field.  Add to that, the problem of very wet conditions so everything will be localized.  Deer will be moving, particularly at night, when the moon is up.  There is a full moon on the 13th so a week either side of that date will be dangerous.  Be careful when you drive.

ISRA Thursday Bulletin - September 26, 2019

Last week I attended the Gun Rights Policy Conference (GRPC) in Phoenix, Arizona.  This year’s GRPC was the largest ever held with nearly 1100 people registered.  I can tell you the room was jam packed. The high attendance at this year’s conference was undoubtedly driven by concerns about the rising anti-gun movement in the United States, the Democratic candidates openly supporting firearm confiscation, and the high percentage of the gun owners in the Southwestern United States.  There were people there from other countries as well.  In all, there were 91 speakers.  This is the greatest single gun rights conference in the world.  Next year’s conference will be in Orlando, Florida, on September 18th, 19th, and 20th.  You should plan on attending.

The dew drenched mornings and summer winds will soon give way to Fall.  The leaves seem to be falling prematurely and patches of yellow are spreading through the soy bean fields.  On Monday, Fall will arrive and the first frost will soon be here.  Now is the time to stock up on shotgun shells for hunting season.  Fall is my favorite time of the year.

SB 1966

9/18/2019

Senator Julie Morrison (D-Deerfield) has told everyone that she intends to call SB 1966 in either the 1st or 2nd Veto Session.  1st Veto Session is scheduled for October 28th, 29th and 30th;  2nd Veto Session is scheduled for November 12th, 13th and 14th.

SB 1966 does nothing to prevent those violating current law from accessing firearms.

We have several court cases slowly moving through the courts.  The Gun Dealer Licensing Certification case has been delayed because the original judge recused herself and a new judge has been appointed.  We are waiting for our new hearing date, which may just be a preliminary hearing.  In the Deerfield case, the judge combined our case with the GSL case which gave Deerfield another chance to appeal.  Had the case not been combined, Deerfield would have been done.  The Vivian Brown FOID card case was heard by the Illinois Supreme Court on Tuesday.  I do not know when we will hear anything.  The White case will have a preliminary hearing on September 17, 2019.  We will let you know when oral arguments are scheduled.  The White case deals with the failure of the State of Illinois to issue an Illinois Concealed Carry License to a person who has a FOID Card and no criminal record.  The Wilson, et al., v. Cook County, et al., case will be appealed with the United States Supreme Court.  We have a lot of cases going on at this time.  The ISRA is fighting for you.  If you are not a member, JOIN now!
