As you know by now, the Illinois State Rifle Association has filed for a Temporary Restraining Order to prevent the enforcement of the Gun Dealer Licensing Act.  The request was filed Tuesday in the Circuit Court for The Seventh Judicial District, Sangamon County.  If we receive the TRO we will file for a Permanent injunction against the GDL Act.  We will keep you posted on what happens.

Our friends, the California Rifle and Pistol Association (CRPA), have won a major court case despite well-financed opposition from Everytown and Never Again California, two of the Bloomberg front groups.  The Del Mar Fairgrounds adopted an anti-gun policy that blocked gun shows at their facility.  The CRPA, Second Amendment Foundation, the South Bay Rod and Gun Club and several individual plaintiffs sought an injunction to prevent the Del Mar Fairgrounds from enforcing their anti-gun position.  Last week, Judge Cathy Bencivengo issued a preliminary injunction against the Del Mar Fairgrounds.  The Del Mar Fairgrounds serves San Diego County California.

The weather in Philadelphia in July 1776 was one of those hot muggy affairs where both the temperature and humidity hovered in the 90s.  Thomas Jefferson was working on the Declaration of Independence in rooms rented from Jacob Graff on the second floor of his home.  His quarters consisted of a parlor and bed chamber.  Jefferson described himself as writing habitually in the parlor for two weeks.  Despite the conditions, he finished the Declaration of Independence.  The Lee Resolution, also known as the Resolution for Independence, was passed on the 2nd of July.  That was the date Jefferson thought would be celebrated.  The final wording for the Declaration of Independence was approved on July 4th which turned out to be the date celebrated, much to the surprise of Jefferson.  The Declaration was not actually signed until August 2nd 1776.

Summer is here and hopefully the rain will be slowing down and we can all get out and enjoy our favorite shooting activities.  Summer leagues are flourishing so be sure to take advantage of them.  The National Matches start in a little over a week at Camp Perry, Ohio.  This will be the last year for them at Camp Perry.  Next year they will be held at Camp Atterbury in Indiana.  If you have never been to Camp Perry, this is your last chance.

I have received several calls asking how I know Julie Morrison (D-Deerfield) is going to run the FOID card bill (SB1966) in Veto Session.  The answer does not require being much of a clairvoyant.  She announced it in her newsletter.  Morrison does not intend to stop there.  She held a town hall meeting last week and talked about confiscation of AR15s and other such firearms.

Today is the 75th Anniversary of D-Day.  Soldiers from the United States, Canada and Great Britain were engaged in the greatest waterborne invasion in history.  They were assaulting Hitler’s Atlantic Wall.  To give you an idea of what it involved to do the D-Day Operation, there were 11,590 aircraft, 6939 vessels, 132,715 allied troops, 196,700 sailors and 7,000,000 tons of supplies, including 450,000 tons of ammunition.  By June 11, the Allies had landed 326,537 troops, 54,186 vehicles and 104,428 tons of supplies.  The troops began the arduous and deadly job of pushing deeper and deeper in France, hedge row by hedge row.

ISRA Thursday Bulletin - May 23, 2019

On Tuesday, May 21st, the anti-gunners’ dream bill SB1966 HCA1 passed out of the House Judicial Committee and is on the order of Second Reading in the House of Representatives.   If this bill passes the House it only has to go to the Illinois Senate for Concurrence.   There will be no hearings, just a vote. While this bill claims to fix the Aurora problem, it does not.  The shooter in Aurora had lied twice on federal government forms, as well as state forms.  Each lie carried a perjury charge, he possessed a firearm illegally and no one did anything.  The problem, we are told, is that the Illinois State Police (ISP) does not have enough resources.  Really!
