Fall is upon us and before long the brilliant autumn colors will be at their peak. North of I-70 the brightest colors will be in mid-October. South of I-70 the colors will be at their best in the third or fourth week of October. Fall has always been my favorite season. This October will be exceptional because it is a Blue Moon month; there will be a Full Moon on October 1st and 31st. Halloween will have a Full Moon and what could be better? Harvest is moving along swiftly so watch out for the deer, they will be running around everywhere.

The passing of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg (RBG) has added one more log to the 2020 General Election fire. Those of us in the Second Amendment movement have long known that Ginsberg was an enemy of the Second Amendment. Ginsberg was a President Clinton appointee during the time of the 1994 semi-auto ban. RBG, who came from the DC Circuit, was part of the swamp from the beginning and soon became an icon of the left. The left wingers will use her for a rallying cry.

The shooting of two California police officers, by an unknown assailant at the time of this writing, has prompted Joe Biden to call for more gun control. Joe ‘always on top of the situation’ Biden called for a ban on semiautomatic rifles. The assailant used a handgun but Biden dutifully read from his script. In the past, you may recall Biden called for a ban of magazines that held 100 clips. Yes, you read it correctly. Make no mistake; Biden wants to ban them all.

Labor Day is the unofficial start of the campaign season. As Jackie Gleason used to say at the beginning of his Saturday Night comedy show, And away we go! I expect the Presidential Campaign to heat up very quickly. For a long time we were only seeing Donald Trump signs, but now Biden-Harris signs are popping up. By this time next week both campaigns will be at a full gallop.

September is already here and the cooling days not only signal the coming of Fall, but this year the most important election in our lifetime. As of today, the election is only 60 days away. For those who want to know how far away the election is, we have put a countdown to the election clock on the ISRA website on the bottom of the home page.

Somehow the summer is slipping by more rapidly than normal. The 1st of September will be here soon and with it comes dove season. I consider dove hunting one of the more challenging and enjoyable of the hunting seasons. A few years ago, I went to Argentina dove hunting. I have to say it wasn’t a very good dove shot at the beginning but I was much better by the end of the trip. That trip was really a safari. A bird boy is assigned to each hunter and they tally every shot. The first day I was limping along with a 25% hit ratio. There were 23 of us in the hunting party and each night everyone’s hit ratio went up on a board for all to see. The good news is I wasn’t last. By the last day of the four-day trip I was at 75%. Doves are a pest in Argentina. We were in Cordoba Province and doves eat an estimated 50,000 bushels of grain a day in that province alone. The farmers were glad to see us. We ate dove every day for lunch and the bird boys took the rest to their families and villages and shared them with everyone. They are very poor there so they were glad to have the meat. At the end of four days, I was in the upper middle of the pack with 1794 doves. In all, we killed over 44,000 doves.
