Will We Ever See It?

by Don Bekeleski

I know a lot of gun owners in Illinois have been asking themselves for a long time “Will we ever see concealed carry in this state”?

After recently seeing common sense legislation not being veto overrode in our state legislature, it really makes one wonder why is Illinois the only state that has to deal with all this anti-this and anti-that bills one after another. It seems like all the other states are gaining ground all the time in locking in and defending all their 2nd Amendment rights while we lose, lose, lose all the time.

That really is not all true! We have gained a lot in some great bills we have seen passed here in Illinois recently. The attitude of the legislature lately has changed greatly. Most all of the influence has come from people like you, who have taken the time to make calls to Senators and Reps. I’m sure those elected officials have said, “If only we had x amount of more elected people in this body to overcome the Chicago vote”.

Here is where we come in again. We are going to have to find out what side of the fence people running for office in Springfield are on. Once we know that, we have to talk to people we know, to tell them to vote only for those on our side of the fence. Chicago will continue to have an edge as long as the rest of the state elects anti-2nd Amendment people in pockets all over the state.

People in Chicago had also better start looking at what those Democrats they keep electing are doing to their rights in Springfield. They have to quit saying, “I’m a Democrat and that’s the way I’m always going to vote”. That’s ok as long as the Democrat you want to elect will defend your gun rights. If not—punch the Republican candidate!! Look at that city and ask yourself, “Has gun control under Daley reduced gun violence in you city”? If they tell you the guns come from outside the city, then ask them why do the areas where people are armed not have the same problem? Why is it that where guns are allowed the crime is lower? How many times does your party affiliation have to slap you in the face before you wake up? To the gun owner, it’s not party anymore but who is on our side. I have voted for pro-gun Democrats if the Republican was an anti.

The rest of us outside Chicago also have to check out our candidates and let other people in our district know about them. Call the NRA or ISRA and ask! Call the headquarters of the candidate and ask what’s his or her stance on gun control! If we can keep the good guys in Springfield and send them a fresh posse to boost their efforts, we can tell the guys in black hats to sit down, because the guys in white hats say what becomes law here.

Most of all, we have to get rid of Rod Chicagovich and Lisa Madatguns and elect a pro 2nd Amendment Governor in this state. If we can get this accomplished, we will one-day sit with the other 41 states that have concealed carry. All I ask is don’t give up hope after so many good changes have happened in our favor. They are hearing you in Springfield so don’t let the shouting stop ever! Pass this small talk on and we will gain more ground.
