Calling on those bills!

by Don Bekeleski

There are two very important bills in Springfield right now, which I am sure you have read on the front page of this web site. What scares me is how many of you may read the alert and not take action. The gun owners defeated all of Daley's gun bills last time around due to the heavy call volume that was laid down in Springfield against those bills.

Some gun owners though get the feeling that they have called a thousand times already and are tired of calling, sometimes on the same type of bills that have been up before. The anti's hope you do get tired and don't call. Did you ever notice that they never get tired of bringing up the same bills over and over. Mmmm, that means if they can keep bringing up the same thing or even different bills and they can wear you out from calling, guess what!

The legislators get less calls against the bill and starts to think, "Well maybe there isn't as much resistance against this anymore."

Maybe at their pep rallies they are telling their people to just keep plugging because the gun owners tire very easy. Maybe you read the alert and say, "Ya I read it and I called on that bill last time." When soldiers in a battle find out the enemy has taken a certain hill they conquered before, they don’t say "We did that one already." No, they reload and head back up there to retake the hill. That's where each and every one of you come in. Whenever there is a bill introduced and our captain blows revile, reload and head back to the hill.

We won't win battles staying in camp watching television. Get on the phone, call everyone you know who might not know about the bill and ask them to please join the fight and call. Send an email alert or forward the one you got to other people. It's like 'A' company calling 'B ' company to warn of an impending intrusion. Everyone thought Daley's gun bills would win hands down last time. That didn't happen. People were burning mad at this legislation and the phone boards in Springfield lit up like the Fourth of July. That's what killed the bills. It takes approximately no more than 2 minutes to dial and leave a message. A TV commercial is on for five minutes, so you can be back before the program restarts. They won't beat us as long as you reload and move out every time the bugle is sounded!

Webmaster's note: The bills that Don is referring to are SB2165, introduced by Ed Petka (R-Plainfield), and SB2386, introduced by George Shadid (D-Pekin).
