New Year's Resolutions

by Don Bekeleski

It’s that time when people make them, then usually break them. I would like to give you a few that I hope you would make and very seriously make sure you don’t break them by following through with each one. They are not hard at all and everyone can surely feel proud they have completed them. It’s not a long nor hard list, but it can be considered a very important list.

1. Every one who is a member of the ISRA make up your mind to recruit one new person to join the ISRA this year. Now that gives you 12 months to convince one person you know to get involved. This is not a monumental task. Mark these down and cross them off as you complete them. Don’t stop trying till you are able to cross-them all off. It can be like a ‘honey do list’ and you can’t wait to get it off your desk. Think about it---365 days to convince one person!! For instance, let’s say we have 15,000 members; then if everyone does his job we will have 30,000. That’s a great membership advancement and it only took each of us to get one.

2. Each person convince one other to join the NRA this year. If all of us pull this off we would increase the NRA membership in our state alone by 15,000. This is great recruitment and again it only took one deal on your part.

3. Decide this is the year you will convince either a non-shooter or a young person that has never shot to come to the range with you. We have to do this to keep building the numbers to our sport. The excitement you will witness in their faces is worth it all. Again this could be 15.000 new shooters.

These are three simple resolutions each one of us can accomplish with just a little bit of effort. You won’t have to stop eating your favorite food. You won’t have to jog each morning. You won’t have to love your boss anymore than you do. THE ONLY EXCERSISE WILL BE WITH YOUR JAWS. You have three things to cross off your list. We will all know by the end of the year if you didn’t follow through, so get going!
