Recruiting

by Don Bekeleski

I’m sure everyone has heard the words "comfort zone." It of course refers to an environment that someone feels very comfortable in and usually that person does not want to journey outside of it. Going outside of it could involve a conflict or upheaval that a person does not want to deal with and would not have to deal with if they just remain in their comfort zone. There are many, many gun owners just like that. Some have the mentality that if it doesn’t affect me, I just won’t get involved. They don’t realize that later it will affect them and they’ll wish they had acted earlier in the conflict.

The only way we will get more gun owners to join the ISRA or the NRA is to get out of that zone and start recruiting by talking to them. I have heard guys say my friends aren’t interested. Well guess what! It’s time to get them interested! If 100 gun owners talk to someone tomorrow and they convince one person each, then the recruiting doubled in one day. The plumber is not going to do the electrician’s work and the electrician is not going to do the carpenter’s work. That leaves only the gun owners to do their own work. To sit there and say they believe what they want and I’ll believe what I want and we won’t have that conflict is foolish. There are so many people I have convinced to join just by showing them that their membership is one more number. We have to increase the numbers so the American people can see we are growing very steadily. If all 70 million gun owners belonged to the NRA do you think for one minute Congress would attempt to pass any gun legislation?? I don’t think so!

As long as those 65 million gun owners stay outside, Sarah Brady and Congress think they must want some type of gun legislation or wouldn’t they belong?? In other words if you are not on the NRA or ISRA side you must be on her side! What other conclusion would one draw? That’s where the numbers come in and that’s what you have to stress to the non–joiners. It’s simple logic. For the sake of us all, we need you people that are in that comfort zone to move out and start recruiting. Explain how they resemble ostriches with their head in the ground while everything is going on around them. They need to pull their head out of the sand and deal with their surroundings. If you don’t go tap them on the shoulder their head will stay right there.

If you are one of those people in that comfort zone, I really think it’s time to take a deep breath and head over to that buddy of yours and say "Excuse me, can I take a minute of your time to talk about something very important." If you don’t, one day your going to notice that comfort zone getting smaller and smaller as the crunch begins. If you don’t expand your zone the zone outside is going to get bigger and bigger till there can only be one zone, "THEIRS", AND YOU WILL ALL OF A SUDDEN BE CONSUMED BY IT. We all have our districts and no one else is coming into yours to do your work. Believe me the more you talk to them the more you’ll make sense. Don’t ever get hot headed, just keep explaining the importance of belonging in a nice, gentle way. I have seen it work over and over if you are persistent. Let me personally say right now thanks for helping! We couldn’t do it without you! It’s out of our district.
