Have you ever walked along with someone just chatting about things? I do a lot
of times at the range or with fellow shooters and hunters. Then I might say
something like “Man it’s really great we got that stupid so called assault
weapons ban repealed.” Then all of a sudden I hear them say “Well it wasn’t so
bad, after all it was only assault weapons.” Then I think to myself, you have
the mindset of the people who would repeal our rights. No it wasn’t any assault
weapons at all, only semi-auto rifles! There was not one actual, factual assault
weapon in there.
Then another person that I may say “Gee it would be nice if we could get rid of
the waiting periods in Illinois.” And only to hear them say, “It’s only three
days.” If you really needed protection you could be dead in three days! How
could he think that?
Or the one that really gets under my skin is when I say “Thank God for the NRA
or ISRA.” Only to hear a fellow gun owner say “I don’t belong to them because I
don’t like all the mailings I get for donations” or “I belong to the NRA so I
don’t have to belong to the ISRA.”
I can’t believe gun owners can be that naive to believe such crap. If you have
agreed with any of the above you have given Sarah Brady, Sen. Schumer, Ted
Kennedy and all the rest of the anti’s a big hoorah. Please get it
straight—waiting periods do nothing but possibly endanger law abiding citizens.
Don’t agree with any of them except the instant check. So the NRA sends you a
lot of mailings. Well did you know that they can’t use any of your dues to fight
legislation or anything else? That can only be used for your magazine and
administrative costs. So where do you want them to get the funds needed for the
battles? Stand with a tin cup! You throw unwanted mail away every day, so donate
when you can and don’t donate when you just did. The important thing is your
number in the total number of members. The main thing is to belong, know what’s
going on and sort your mail as you please, but DON’T QUIT!
As far as not belonging to the ISRA because you belong to the national one let
me say something. Who do you think has two full time lobbyists at work in
Springfield? Who does most of the battling for you in Springfield? Who really
cares the most about IL, and what happens here? Who will gladly send you e-mails
the minute something concerning you here breaks out? It’s the ISRA! Need
I say more? The newspapers always say the NRA bucked this bill or that one. Yes
they did standing side by side with the ISRA, which the paper hardly mentions.
Don’t give in to any of the anti’s ideas! They especially don’t want you to join
the NRA or the ISRA because God forbid you might be informed of what’s coming
down around your ears. They want you to be a good boy or girl and get all your
gun news from only the liberal press, because they know you’ll never hear the
truth there. The next move is yours. If I have changed your mind I’d like to
hear from you. What are you going to do?
