I first of all want to say that I don't know anything about military style weapons. My friend rattles parts off like a typewriter and I have no idea what they are used for. I also never had a liking for military weapons, as far as buying one is what I mean. It's not that I don't like them, or believe that people should not own them. That's not it at all. I just grew up liking all the polished wood and shiny stainless steel look on firearms.
So if I don't particularly like them why am I writing about them.
Well when we went turkey hunting last spring and the hunt was over my friend brings out this AR-15. I kinda looked at it and said "Oh well, it's his gig". After x amount of rounds he said, "Do you want to try it Don"? I thought what the heck I might as well because I have never even held one of these types of rifles except in the service. He put some empty Pepsi cans out against a hill. After he showed me all the controls on this sputnik I proceeded to fire some rounds. I had about 4 cans fly in the air. Now what did I think of this puppy?
I have to say it was a very smooth shooting weapon. There was not a lot of kick and it was almost like a big 357 round feel. It was very accurate! I was surprised at how much I really enjoyed it. It was my introduction into military rifles, even though I had been in the Army. This was a different type of weapon from my M-16 days. It was light. It seemed to fit me like a glove. I was really shocked at how good the weapon felt in my hands and the fun I had shooting it.
I really have to say to the shooters that only own the polished guns that you need to try this. If I did more rifle shooting then shotgun, I could honestly say I probably would buy one. These guns are neat and cool to fire. Don't be on the outside and say, "Ah who needs them". I truly can see how a person would love shooting these as much as I love shooting my shotgun. We polished gun guys need to stand behind these types of shooters and defend the right for them to own them, as much as we would want them to defend our right to own the polished ones.
It's called a "band of brothers" and we are all in the same ball game - just using different bats! If we lose the military guns because of cosmetics and looks (that's the only difference) then the polished ones are next.
Please as a 2nd Amendment defender do protect the rights of all gun owners, not just the firearms that look nice. If we don't stand together we shall surely all fall together!
