Cook County Ban

by Don Bekeleski

I can’t stress enough how the people in Cook County need to call their county board commissioners. As you know they are planning to vote on an “assault weapons” ban on Sept. 8th. You and I know these are not assault weapons just ordinary semi-auto rifles. This could be M-1 Garands which many people own and take to the range. It’s an assault all right!! It’s an assault on your 2nd Amendment rights and you need to jump up and holler (in a polite way) and let your commissioner know your feelings.

One commissioner Joan Murphy already has changed her mind about supporting this ban because of calls from her constituents. We have won victories in Springfield this year through phone calls to our legislators telling them how right and wrong certain bills were. If we have already changed the mind of one commissioner we can change the minds of others, or at least have someone on the board speaking against it, because they have been educated through phone calls. Don’t lay down and die, people. Get up and fight!! You need to tell everyone you know that lives in Cook County to get on the horn. We have a couple of weeks so let’s make a concentrated effort to burn up the lines. First, read the proposed ordinance. Then, here is a link to the list of the names and numbers of all the Cook County Commissioners on the Cook County site. Go there and let the wireless become tireless in the next two weeks. If we don’t hang together, we shall all hang separately. They didn’t back off at Concord and the same spirit needs to live in us now.

Like they say in chess, “It’s your move”.
