It’s a word not used too often, but it has
a powerful meaning! Most people will use the word ‘fellowship’ instead. I feel
there is a big difference. Fellowship somehow has a sense of deep meaning in
your soul. It means a place where people may comfort you or even relate to you
on a certain subject. It has more of a profound meaning.
Camaraderie on the other hand instantly conjures thoughts of happiness, laughs
and a fun time. How should this play a part amongst shooters and hunters? I
think it should be a major part of their gatherings. When you head out to the
range or hunting you should be looking forward to the camaraderie as much as you
are looking forward to the activity! Shooters and hunters should be able to get
together even as strangers and be able to strike up camaraderie. If not it could
be an adventure that has something missing.
How many times have you heard someone say “I don’t like going to such and such a
range or area because the people are not friendly”. Let me say something right
here. If we don’t have each other as good friends, whom the hell are you going
to look to?? We share a deep sense of sharing in that we do something many
people may find disgusting. The guy next to you thinks it’s just as great to
shoot as you do, so talk to him about it. No one says you have to go to lunch
together, but at least give him or her the respect that they deserve as fellow
shooters or hunters. They want to be here as bad as you do. Now granted you may
not always get a good response back, because some people are just inward by
nature, but think of the consequences if no one made the initiative to say “Hi”.
We really need each other more than ever. Stick together, think alike together.
There are plenty of old war stories in each of us. Tell them about the funny
ones that happened to you! Don’t dominate the conversation. Remember talking is
two persons communicating. Think in your mind, “Ok I’m going to talk to him or
her and they are going to listen. I don’t want them to quit before I do”. Just
for the sake of the sport, make each gathering a time of good camaraderie and
you and the other person will have had a great day outdoors. God bless!
