I want to first of all thank all the ISRA members and other gun owners in the
state for making calls to their legislators whenever the e-mail alerts came out
to do so. It’s because of your concentrated effort that we have been able to
stop a lot of anti-gun legislation in Illinois!
I’ll bet the anti-gun people are wondering where the heck have all these people
have come from all of a sudden. I believe more and more gun owners are tired of
standing by and not doing something to protect their rights. They have seen the
results of being active and speaking up. This is great and we must keep the
momentum going. Just as the minutemen were ready in a flash to fight, so must we
gun owners be also. It’s like just mention an anti-gun piece of legislation and
I’m on the phone right now.
The other side of this though is sad. There are so many more gun owners that
have such apathy about dangerous legislation to their rights. I don’t know how
many times I have gone to the range and shooters come up to me and say, “So
what’s happening in Springfield Don?” I always say, “You’re a person who loves
to shoot every weekend and you’re telling me you have no idea of what is coming
down around your ears? Why don’t you join the ISRA and start keeping track of
how they are trying to disarm you!” Then I get that look like it takes so much
time to keep up with all that stuff. It’s almost like telling them Hitler is in
central Illinois and moving North. Then you’d almost expect them to say, “Give
me a call if he makes it to Kankakee will ya”.
I shake my head and wonder how can your right to own a firearm be so on the
bottom of your things to be concerned with? I believe if a gun they owned was
banned from possession, I would hear, “When did all this happen”? The answer
that amazes me the most from these guys is “They’ll never be able to pass that!”
If you look at other states they have been able to hodge podge pass everything
to a certain extent, so what makes them think it can’t happen? It’s time to come
out of the gun owners’ closet and show your colors.
We saw this in last November elections. If every gun owner would have
voted for pro Second Amendment candidates we would not have the people that are
in certain offices today. I really can’t understand their thinking! When you
have a chance to do something concerning protecting your right, why in the world
would you be apathetic?
I would really like to make an appeal to anyone reading this that knows that
they are in that camp. Please from this day forward take a major concerned
interest in what is happening both nationally but most importantly what is
happening here in your state. When you see all the good the rest of us have
done, wouldn’t you feel a whole lot better if you were part of that action?
I was at the Wheaton gun show handing out political information on pro 2nd
Amendment candidates. I could not believe the people that said ‘no’ when I asked
them, ”Do you belong to the ISRA?” I got answers like “I don’t think so” or “The
what?” One person I talked to about getting email alerts and being informed
said, “Ya, I really don’t know what’s happening in this State unless I read it
in the papers.” This is truly sad. Think of all the phone calls that could be
added if they were only informed.
Somehow some gun owners think if they bury their head in the sand and don’t get
involved with anything –no one will know about their guns. If you have a FOID
card they already know you! Do they ever think that if the bans go through that
they may own their guns, but where the hell are they going to shoot them? No,
it’s an up front fight with every gun owner involved!
To cop out and say the ISRA or the NRA will take care of it is silly. When these
two organizations are mentioned in the news for defeating a gun bill, realize
that an organized board of directors did not defeat the bill. The ISRA and the
NRA are the members calling their legislators! Don’t thank the ISRA (per say)
but thank the guy at work that is a member and did the calling. He and all the
other calling members defeated that bill. Those people are the ISRA and
the NRA.
We really want you to be informed and acting on information. That’s the real
reason we want you to be a member! Legislative lobbying on your behalf also cost
a lot and every so often we need to contribute to the fight. That donation goes
a long way in helping and the anti’s give just to see your guns taken away. They
are determined and won’t quit. Are you going to just lay down and die or stand
up and fight for what’s rightfully yours? I want you to think it over and jump
on board if your not there already, so next time you can be part of the people
we can thank too!
