Firearms Logic

Firearms Logic

When talking to certain people, like the ones that dislike firearms, or do not believe we should own them, or are vehemently against us getting conceal carry, all you have to use is common sense and logic to explain your point.

I guess all of us have run into all of the above at some time in our life. I really wonder why they can’t use common sense and logic to understand firearm ownership and use.

Let’s look at disliking firearms first! There are many people in this category. Most of the time, I believe the reason being they have never been exposed to shooting a firearm.

They can’t understand that it is a tool not only for defense. but also for hunting and great enjoyment when it is used in the shooting sports. I have seen grins from ear to ear when a woman or young lad breaks his first clay pigeon or hits his or her first bullseye!

Now there are some and I will agree, that even after shooting a gun, they still do not like them. A lot of that I think comes from them thinking that somehow this is a tool of total destruction, which can’t be controlled. I really think they don’t want to understand it, or most of that fear would dissipate.

Let me give you an example. I run a Ladies Day shoot twice a year. I started it to get more women into the shooting sports. We supply everything. Gun—ammo—eye protection—ear protection and I have a Range Officer with each lady for a one on one instruction. We do it in both shotgun and pistol.

About two years ago I had a lady from Chicago come up to Wisconsin to attend the shoot. Her friend told me she had never been near a gun etc.

I walked over to her and said, “I understand you have never been near a gun?”

She said, “Oh no never!” I handed her an empty 38 pistol. She held it like a dead rattlesnake. I told her that she controls it—it doesn’t control you.

After showing her the proper way to hold it, she felt better. To make a long story short, at lunch time when I came back from shotgun, I called her over. She came over, hugged me and said, “Don, I shot a 22. 38. 357 and a 45 and one person let me shoot his rifle. I’m going to buy a pistol next week.” I informed her it wouldn’t be that quick of a process, but I was happy we changed her mind.

I will never forget that as long as I live. Here was a woman who knew absolutely nothing about firearms and was a little scared of them too, now completely turned around! This is what the people who dislike firearms need to do. It’s like the first time you drive a car. Get in it and conquer it!

If after that you still don’t want to drive, ok but at least you got in the car and tried it.

Next we have the people who do not believe we should own firearms. This one really baffles me!

My first answer would be the Founding Fathers gave us that right to own them and also gave you the right not to own them, but you should not speak against that right, just as we should not speak against the right for you not to own one!

So you can believe all you want that Americans should not own them, but you should never work against the right of the people to have one. It’s in the Bill of Rights—like it or not!

That is your choice and so is it our choice. Besides if the law –abiding did not have any firearms, then logic and common sense should show them that only criminals and police would have them, leaving you and anyone else helpless in a criminal attack on your life.

They are there to protect you and your loved ones. By telling people they should not be allowed to own them, you are speaking against the Bill of Rights and also saying they are to be left defenseless.

Thirdly, we come to the ones that don’t believe we should have concealed carry.

This is the easiest one to explain. It’s done again with common sense and logic and most of all facts!

All you have to do is point out all the states that have it and how they have no problems with it. The facts show it, because not one of the 49 states that have it have ever introduced a bill to revoke it! That alone should prove something!

They are not revoking, but actually adding to it all the time, such as carrying in places that were forbidden before. Why? Well they see the people are behaving themselves wherever they carry!

Another point is that if something were to happen by a wrong-doer, he would be facing multiple firearms aimed at him by the law –abiding, that it would be best for him to lay the gun down!

The logic part is that criminals already have concealed carry—they do it illegally and don’t care about any law you pass against it. That would be like you going to work without your cell phone. They also are not going to work without their gun!

Wisconsin I read allows it in their state capitol.

Let me think—how many shootings have occurred in their state capitol since November when it was passed—oh I know—none!!! They have issued their 100,000 carry permit and had a special hoopla deal about it. Do you think they would do that if there was problem with the law?

Oh I forgot to mention that all the anti-gun organizations always claim more guns equal more shootings. Well by now Wisconsin’s body count should be up to about 25,000, but in reality the count is still “0”.

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist or a professor to show that conceal carry works and if it doesn’t, please ask them to show you the figures where it is causing mayhem. Tell them you’ll even give them a whole month to report back to you.

It’s like the lady who got stopped by the police. She gave them her driver’s license, insurance papers, and carry permit. The officer said, “I see you have a cc permit. Are you carrying?” She replied, “Yes, I have a fully loaded 357 in my purse, a 38 special fully loaded under the seat and a 9mm fully loaded in the glove compartment.”

The officer said, “Mrs. Smith, just what are you afraid of?” She replied, “Officer, not a damn thing”!

Logic and common sense folks are all you need! They can’t compete against it because their side is ill-logical and not common sense. The ayes here win over the nays any day of the week.

Ask them this!

Webmaster's note:
Have you ever questioned whether you can actually give the gift of a firearm? Is that a straw sale? We found the following text in the ATF 4473 form helpful, pertaining to question 11a:

Question 11.a. Actual Transferee/Buyer:
For purposes of this form, you are the actual buyer if you are purchasing the firearm for yourself or otherwise acquiring the firearm for yourself (e.g., redeeming the firearm from pawn/retrieving it from consignment, firearm raffle winner). You are also the actual buyer if you are acquiring the firearm as a legitimate gift for a third party. ACTUAL BUYER EXAMPLES: Mr. Smith asks Mr. Jones to purchase a firearm for Mr. Smith. Mr. Smith gives Mr. Jones the money for the firearm. Mr. Jones is NOT THE ACTUAL TRANSFEREE/BUYER of the firearm and must answer "NO" to question 11a. The licensee may not transfer the firearm to Mr. Jones. However, if Mr. Brown goes to buy a firearm with his own money to give to Mr. Black as a present, Mr. Brown is the actual buyer of the firearm and should answer "YES" to question 11a. However, you may not transfer a firearm to any person you know or have reasonable cause to believe is prohibited under 18 U.S.C. § 922(g), (n), or (x).
