American Anti-Gunners

I recently attended the Gun Rights Policy Conference in Charlotte, North Carolina. This annual event is sponsored by the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms and the Second Amendment Foundation. The Illinois State Rifle Association (ISRA) is one of the participating organizations. The conference is formed around sixteen different panels that cover all types of gun rights issues - from local to international issues, and from concealed carry to access to public lands.

The panel on “The International Gun Control” movement was the most disturbing. One report dealt with an anti-gun fundraiser and was hosted by none other than Mike Wallace of CBS’s “60 Minutes.” This $50,000 per ticket fundraiser was held at the French Embassy in Washington, D.C. (The French Embassy is actually in France, even though it is surrounded by U.S. soil). One of the participants said he was glad he was in France because it was safe! The criminal rate in France is 75% higher than in the U.S., yet, the French are assisting anti-gun forces right here in the United States of America, and using diplomatic immunity to do it.

Another international development was exposed by the New York and California anti-gun initiatives to serial number each round of ammunition. What that means is that a record of each round of ammunition we buy would be recorded and if that ammunition ever turned up where it shouldn’t, we would be held accountable, even if there was an error in recording serial numbers, we would never be able to prove our innocence. This would also drive gun shops out of business because of the paper work. Both of these bills failed, but it was discovered that the millions of dollars it took to push the ammunition serial numbering plan were donated to the U.S. anti-gun organizations from European sources. England, Germany, and Finland were the main sources of funding; one Far Eastern country and Japan also supplied some of the money.

On the U.N. front: their plans to torpedo U.S. gun owners have at least temporally run aground. They do have a new idea, however. The U.N.’s idea is to replace every country’s shipping regulations with a new U.N. standard and companies actually like this idea because it standardizes everything. For gun owners it could be a disaster. Right now the U.S. operates under Other Regulated Materials-classification D (ORMD) shipping rules, but the U.N. is trying to change these rules and get the U.S., as well as other countries, to adopt U.N. Shipping Regulation 1.4F. If these rules are adopted, they would be so expensive to ship firearms and ammunition that most of us could not afford it. It’s just another way to get at U.S. gun ownership.

It does not matter to the European anti-gunners and anti-hunters if you are a duck hunter, deer hunter, pheasant hunter, or whatever kind of gun owner you are - they are out to get you! They are trying to kick you out of your tree stand, duck blind, hunting field, gun club. Even your home is not safe from these radicals. Get over the idea they aren’t after you – because they are.

These are only some of the anti-gun schemes that have been discovered, who knows what else is out there? What I do know is that if every hunter, shooter, or gun owner doesn’t stick together, we are in trouble. I urge all who are not members of the ISRA to join. The only way gun owners are going to survive is by staying united. The ISRA is here to represent you. To join the ISRA simply call 815-635-3198 or go to www.isra.org.
