Representative Moylan Revives His Divisive Campaign Against Law-Abiding Firearm Owners

10/9/2017

CHICAGO - - The following was released today by the Illinois State Rifle Association (ISRA):

While people of good conscience ponder the aftermath of the recent Las Vegas mass murders, political opportunists have seized the moment to hammer the rights of lawful American citizens.  Illinois State Representative Marty Moylan (D-Des Plaines) is one such opportunist.

Late last week, Moylan introduced HB4107 – a bill that would result in the ban and eventual forfeiture of millions of firearms lawfully owned by Illinois citizens.  Much of what is contained in HB4107 was lifted from previous bogus attempts to crack down on law-abiding hunters and sportsmen.  Past legislatures have widely rejected such schemes as being bad public policy – and rightly so.  Enactment of HB4107 would in no way deter crime or prevent the occurrence of events such as the Las Vegas mass murder.  Moylan knows that - and so do the criminals.

“Like people the world over, ISRA members were appalled and saddened by the carnage inflicted in Las Vegas,” commented ISRA Executive Director, Richard Pearson.  “After all, the victims were regular folks just like us – just out on the town trying to have a good time.”

“It is entirely understandable that people are looking for answers,” continued Pearson.  “Citizens want to know why someone would commit such an atrocity and they also want to know what may be done to prevent future occurrences.  There is certainly an array of appropriate public policy responses out there, but launching a divisive campaign to single out and vilify lawful gun owners should not be one of them.”

“Marty Moylan has an obsessive hatred of firearms and the people who own them,” said Pearson.  “Throughout his political career, Moylan has gone out of his way to antagonize a whole class of good Illinois citizens merely because they choose to own firearms.  Make no mistake, HB4107 was penned by Moylan specifically to force penance on lawful firearm owners.  Moylan’s hatred of firearm owners has blinded him to the fact that fostering divisions will not solve the state’s, or the nation’s problems.”

“The ISRA considers the protection and preservation of the right to keep and bear arms to be a cultural imperative,” concluded Pearson.  “The ISRA won’t stand by and watch Moylan tax, license, register and eventually confiscate arms belonging to law-abiding Illinois citizens.  We will be asking all Illinois firearms owners to contact their State Representatives and State Senators to express their disapproval of HB4107, and to ask their legislators to vote against HB4107 should it come to the floor.”

The ISRA is the state’s leading advocate of safe, lawful, and responsible firearms ownership.  For more than a century, the ISRA has represented the interests of millions of law-abiding Illinois firearm owners.

Otis McDonald Did the Right Thing

CHICAGO, April 4, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The following is a statement released today by the Illinois State Rifle Association regarding the passing of Otis McDonald:

It would have been understandably easy for Otis McDonald to just kick back and enjoy his golden years. Nobody would have blamed Otis one bit for wanting to savor the intangible riches that a long and eventful life has to offer – time with family and a good chuckle or two with friends. It would certainly be fair for one to ask why the heck a man in his seventies would want to launch a challenge against the hallmark achievement of one of the nation's most powerful political organizations.

ALERT - SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT

Accessories to (Your) Murder

When it became inevitable that Illinois would finally enact concealed carry, leaders of the pro-self defense movement began preparing for the political and legislative backlash that was sure to follow. After all, the gun-grabbers had invested a lot of money and political capital into stalling Illinois' efforts to become the 50th state permitting citizens to defend themselves. Oddly, some within the anti-self defense camp believed that, pass or fail, Illinois' concealed carry efforts would be the catalyst needed to spark a nationwide repeal of concealed carry laws.

So here we are in late March and the anti-CCW barrage is well underway at the Illinois Capitol. Gun-grabbing legislators are tripping all over themselves to introduce legislation to eliminate advantages concealed carry gives the citizen over violent muggers, murderers, robbers and rapists. Once again, the gun-hating left has made its expectations abundantly clear. The gun-haters expect citizens to learn to live with and accept criminal behavior rather than expect criminals to conform to society's norms.

Here is a taste of just some of the anti-self defense legislation introduced during this session of the Illinois General Assembly.
