ISRA Thursday Bulletin - January 19, 2017

by Richard Pearson

Tomorrow, Donald J. Trump will become the 45th President of the United States, a fact that has the political elite in a dither.  In fact, elitists of all kinds can't seem to digest how such a catastrophic event could happen.  The answer is really simple - the people have had a gut full of the ruling class looking down their noses at ordinary Americans.  These elitist windbags forgot one very important fact:  the United States is known for ordinary people, doing extraordinary things.  When we all wake up on Saturday morning, I want you to take a deep breath and think about our first day without Obama or Hillary, and smile.

An Arizona state trooper can thank concealed carry for saving his life.  Arizona, like Illinois and most other states, requires citizens to assist the police, if needed.  Trooper Edward Andersson came upon an accident in which a car had rolled over and a woman had been thrown from the vehicle.  The man in the car attacked the trooper, shooting him between his right shoulder and the center of his chest.  The trooper was struggling with the assailant when a man and his wife came on the scene.  The man, who has not been identified, asked the trooper if he needed help and when the trooper replied “yes”, the motorist retrieved a firearm from his car and ordered the assailant to stop.  The assailant refused, and the motorist shot and killed him.  The Arizona Department of Public Safety believes this was an ambush.  The trooper was airlifted to the hospital and is in serious, but stable condition.

The Shot Show is in full swing in Las Vegas and what a great place to be!  There are 60,000 plus firearms dealers, manufacturers, wholesalers, police, military and press here, and no snowflakes or cupcakes that I have seen.  There is an air of relief that permeates some 14 miles of isles and show booths.  The spirit of America is here.

As far as new and improved products for hunting, shooting and firearms, there are, in my best estimate, about a zillion of them here.  Illinois companies are well represented.  Suppressors are everywhere. I am going to speculate that suppressors will disappear from the NFA list.  While we don't have them in Illinois yet, their availability will drive the prices down.

The ISRA strikes again!  The Illinois State Rifle Association and the Second Amendment Foundation have won another victory for gun owners and the Second Amendment.  A three-judge panel of the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled 3-0 in our favor, in the Ezell v. City of Chicago case.  Ezell v. Chicago deals with the onerous zoning restrictions and requirements placed on shooting ranges inside the City of Chicago.  Those restrictions and requirements are simply designed to make it impossible to open a gun shop and range inside the city.   The case is not over.  I will keep everyone informed as the case moves to the next step.

The suppressor bill, SB50, was introduced in the Illinois Senate on January 18.  We could hear this bill in committee as early as next week.

Thanks for being a member.
