ISRA Thursday Bulletin - December 8, 2016

by Richard Pearson

For the past eight years, the United States has suffered from the “lead from behind” strategy of the Obama Administration. Our soldiers have been handcuffed with stupid rules of engagement that have caused American soldiers to be killed and wounded unnecessarily. I believe this will come to an abrupt end on the 20th of January, or shortly thereafter. No one wants war, but if war does come, our military must be properly equipped, staffed, trained and given rules of engagement governed by rules of war, not politics. I believe the appointment of General James Mattis will change all of that for the better. It is important that we make sure General Mattis is appointed, despite the whining of the “cupcakes.”

General Mattis has a couple of nicknames such as “Mad Dog” and the “Warrior Monk,” both of which are descriptive of his demeanor. General Mattis is among the best generals the United States has ever had. He has been found talking to on-duty troops at 2 and 3am, and has personally served as Officer of the Day to relieve a married officer so he could be with his family. If General Mattis decided to attack the bowels of Hell, not only would his troops follow him, they would fight to be at the front of the line. General Mattis is that type of leader.

I feel that the mindset of the United States Military is about to change for the better. As the attitude toward our military improves and we start rebuilding our military, the number of recruits will increase dramatically. Many of those new military recruits have never touched a firearm; therefore, will need proper marksmanship training. They should know the fundamentals of shooting before ever joining the Armed Forces. The Illinois State Rifle Association was built off the idea of properly training civilians in marksmanship skills before joining the U.S. Military, back in 1903. We have trained thousands of marksmen since then.

There is a program to introduce new recruits to basic marksmanship before they report for duty. It is known as the Armed Forces Training Camp, which has proven highly beneficial in improving recruits’ marksmanship scores when they get to  basic training. I have worked on this program for several years and have been preparing to launch this program. Now is the time. The ISRA will activate this program on February 18, 2017. At that time, instructor orientation will begin. If you are interested, please contact me. The first instructor class will be limited to 30 people. The prerequisite will be a familiarity with the AR15 and instructor experience is preferred. Let me know.

The total number of concealed carry licenses now exceeds 15 million in the United States. I expect this trend to continue. Terrorist attacks are simply murder of the innocent by surprise. Most of the innocent are unprepared. Getting a concealed carry permit is part of that training. Getting a Concealed Carry License certainly is a good first step in getting prepared. If you have not gotten your Illinois Concealed Carry License, please sign up for a class. This is a great present for yourself!

IGOLD (Illinois Gun Owner Lobby Day) has been moved from March 22, 2017 to April 5th, 2017.
