Gun owners, get active!

Gun owners, get active!

By John Meacham, ISRA Member

As I read an article with the headline “RNC internal poll finds GOP in danger due to complacent Trump voters: report” on thehill.com, I was reminded of what Illinois State Rifle Association leaders told those of us who attended a regional meeting in Marion Tuesday of last week.

We conservatives in general and law-abiding firearm owners in particular are all too often our own worst enemies. We are too often too apathetic or uninformed to bring our full power to bear against our very real foes.

Cheap ‘Cleaning’ vs. Deep Cleaning

Cheap ‘Cleaning’ vs. Deep Cleaning

by Kirby Schupp

This article originally appeared in the Summer 2018 issue of The Illinois Shooter
When shooters are asked about how they cleaned their guns, they likely reply that it was done on just the barrel bore and included a typical outside wipe-down. That at least covers the basics, but some mechanisms are so complex that few are attempting anything approaching disassembly. Some offers for gun cleaning at local shops are nothing like a complete teardown, but instead some combination of soak, scrub, or spray. The clue is that the price is too low for professional shops, where experienced gunsmiths know to thoroughly disassemble and inspect the parts after cleansing and before reassembly and testing.

Those Who Rule Against the People

Those Who Rule Against the People

by Richard Vaughan

This article originally appeared in the Summer 2018 issue of The Illinois Shooter

There was a time when our representatives had a fair respect for the will of the people. No more. Astute observers have noted that progressive politicians are fond of ruling against the will of the people. The Obama administration, for example, was very successful at ramming through programs unpopular with Americans: government-run health insurance, a massive debt-inducing stimulus, a costly energy policy, gender-neutral bathrooms, even a “healthy” school lunch program—and, thankfully, less successful anti-gun initiatives.

Face the Truth About Gun Control

Face the Truth About Gun Control

by Charlie Gruner

This article originally appeared in the Summer 2018 issue of The Illinois Shooter

A front-page article in the Sunday, May 6, 2018, issue of the Galesburg Register‑Mail from the Associated Press (AP) titled “Arming adults in schools risky,” sub‑headed, “AP review indicates putting guns in the hands of teachers, campus officers can have own set of consequences.” The AP is not noted for unbiased reporting, and this item is just another example. This piece is designed to mislead readers. The AP would rather have a little sign on the door saying “gun‑free zone” as the sole deterrent to gun violence in schools.
