Those Who Rule Against the People

Those Who Rule Against the People

by Richard Vaughan

This article originally appeared in the Summer 2018 issue of The Illinois Shooter

There was a time when our representatives had a fair respect for the will of the people. No more. Astute observers have noted that progressive politicians are fond of ruling against the will of the people. The Obama administration, for example, was very successful at ramming through programs unpopular with Americans: government-run health insurance, a massive debt-inducing stimulus, a costly energy policy, gender-neutral bathrooms, even a “healthy” school lunch program—and, thankfully, less successful anti-gun initiatives.

Face the Truth About Gun Control

Face the Truth About Gun Control

by Charlie Gruner

This article originally appeared in the Summer 2018 issue of The Illinois Shooter

A front-page article in the Sunday, May 6, 2018, issue of the Galesburg Register‑Mail from the Associated Press (AP) titled “Arming adults in schools risky,” sub‑headed, “AP review indicates putting guns in the hands of teachers, campus officers can have own set of consequences.” The AP is not noted for unbiased reporting, and this item is just another example. This piece is designed to mislead readers. The AP would rather have a little sign on the door saying “gun‑free zone” as the sole deterrent to gun violence in schools.

ISRA Thursday Bulletin - July 26, 2018

by Richard Pearson

The National Rifle and Pistol Matches continue at three locations this year - Camp Perry, Ohio; Camp Atterbury, Indiana and Bristol, Indiana.  The ISRA shooting teams are at all of those locations.  Camp Perry hosted the National Conventional (Bullseye) Pistol Matches.  I am proud to say the ISRA had more pistol teams than any other state.  The ISRA Expert teams finished in the middle of the pack.  There are a lot of Expert teams.  The ISRA Marksman teams finished second and fourth.  Ron Wolflick finished First Police Expert and Jeff Battaglia was Second Sharpshooter.  Well done folks.

Executive Director's Message

With the national focus on mental health as it relates to mass shootings we have seen many states begin the discussion of how to prevent these tragedies.  Many of the discussions have revolved around what has been commonly called “Red Flag Laws”.  The premise behind these laws is how to empower direct family members to be a line of defense when there is a sudden onset of mental health issues that result in a person, who has access to firearms, presenting a danger to themselves and others.

“We applaud the Governor for taking action to save lives.  Studies in both Indiana and Connecticut indicate that similar laws to HB2354 reduce gun related suicide death by 7% to 13%.”

No New Gun Laws; Enforce Those on the Books

by Lance Jacobsen

This editorial originally appeared in the Summer 2018 issue of The Illinois Shooter

Following the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, many people have put forth solutions on how to stop that from ever happening again. They have been on local and network television and talk shows. Most have been non-gun owners, anti-gun supporters, and opponents...

Women, What’s Your Favorite Gun?

Women, What’s Your Favorite Gun?

by Gretchen A. Fritz

This article originally appeared in the Summer 2018 issue of The Illinois Shooter

Who among us hasn’t seen the videos of women being knocked on their behinds when shooting a 12-gauge shotgun for the first time? Yeah, yeah, real funny, honey. And I have heard many stories about the man in her life giving her a 1911 .45 or a snub-nose .38 to shoot for the first time. Way to turn her off to shooting...
